Tipping Monkey to discontinue services as of Dec 1, 2009
25 Nov, 2009 15:37 PT

Dear all members, users, friends and foes of Tipping Monkey,

It is with strong emotions that I am writing to let everyone know that as of December 1, 2009, we will be officially discontinuing the Tipping Monkey service. The main reason for discontinuation is simply the fact that we have not been able to achieve the level of membership and traffic to sustain our operations, and with the proliferation of new competitors in the same space as ours, we just did not feel that it is sensible to maintain the manpower and financial commitment to continue operations for Tipping Monkey. It’s been a very, very tough decision indeed. I wanted to thank everyone who has been using our service, sending feedback, and supporting us in general! ...

Shorting any business that derives revenue from GPS.  Google/Android launching free GPS software via Google Maps on new handsets kills the business model.  Garmin and TomTom are dead.

CAS: Possible Value Stock
01 May, 2009 19:47 PT

CAS could be a value stock.  They have over 50% in assets over the liablities.  They have just made a major investment in equipment which would indicate a possible positive outlook for company's future.  On the downside, their earning per share and overall profit is in the negatives and they are below their industry for earning and profitablity.  They suspended dividend last month and are downsizing employees to reduces costs which would indicate a negative stock price but instead, after initial decline, they have had an overall improvement since then.  Tends to be a volatile stock - needs careful watching to see if truly undervalued and will rebound or if company is having major difficulties and will fall.

NOK: Nokia Buy Thesis

I bought Nokia because it is perfectly set up for emerging market growth.  They currenlty have almost half of the world's cellular phone market and are preparing a portfolio of phones to launch in the BRICS.  I am extremely confident that they will prosper from this because of a Peter Lynch type encounter with the Nokia phone.  When cell phones first became really popular in the US my dad had a Nokia phone and it was perfect for him.  He was and is computer illiterate, but the phone was simple and it was also reliable.  That is why I think that they will do well in the future.  Their closest competitor is RIMM, and I don't think they can compete in that type of market at all.  Their higher end phones are better as well as the profit margins, but I don't believe the world market is ready for those phones at this time.

PTR: Petrocorp on the rise
25 Jul, 2008 20:12 PT

Petrocorp hit its year low last month. It is unlikely to drop below this point due to the July 11 profit report showing year-on-year growth. Call Options at this point are relatively cheap. If it falls, it won't fall below the line. If it goes up, it's all profit.
