MOT: Motorla brings back sexy.

MOT was once the undisputed king of sexy design back in the RAZR glory days.  Stock should move up on speculation that the DROID is a huge sucess in Q4 '09 for the cell phone maker.  Short term play on the DROID hype.

GE: GE and Alterntive Energy on the rise

GE is a major player in the alternative energy game. They are also one of the biggest. GE stock is down 27% from the end of last year, but it is on the rise again. It is only 1.26 points above the 52 week low, and now is the best time to buy. GE is a good company that has been a leader in innovation for 38 years.

Is spread trading included in Options trading?

Hi,

I read a bit and tried spread trading. How different is the two? My understanding is that risks are high, and discipline is very important, as well as awareness of the global markets and economic environment.

Your comments please.

C: Undervalued = Buy

Citigroup is another so called `blue chip` financial company that is being massively oversold on the markets over fears stemming from the sub-prime collapse. Hovering around its 52 week low, I believe this stock to be trading at a significant discount to its real value. It should return to $30 around mid year & $36 by years end.

AIG: Undervalued = Buy

Quite simply, IAG has taken a massive hit over the recent months. It is sitting around its 52 week low & as such I believe it to be a great value buy. Put into perspective, the losses IAG has suffered recently are nothing compared to their overall earnings. The share price will bounce back to around $55 by mid year & $60 by years end.

BRK.A: Wonderful article by Veryan Allen

Happy Valentine`s day to everyone, including those whose sole love is cold hard CA$H!! May your wish be granted!

So some of you already follow the rather famous Hedge Fund Blog by Veryan Allen (we are lucky enough to have his permission to syndicate it here at Tipping Monkey). He is a hard-core seeker of Alpha returns, and definitely a promoter of the strengths of hedge funds.

I thought his most recent article (posted yesterday) is absolutely wonderful. Not only does he explain why we should all be like the Alpha Rat in the Chinese Zodiac, but he also shares his thoughts on Warren Buffett`s reinsuring of Municipal Bonds, MSFT, YHOO, GOOG, BAC, etc., and why he thinks the Dow Jones Industrial Index is not quite representative of the "real" markets ...

MSFT: Microsoft borrowing to buy Yahoo - what about the cash?
05 Feb, 2008 08:42 PT

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), legendary for its massive cash reserves, had announced that it might prefer to leverage on external financing to fund the $44.6 billion acquisition of Yahoo, Inc. (YHOO), according to an Information Week article today. The article also stated that as of the end of its most recent quarter, Microsoft has about $21.1 billion of cash and equivalents. According to other sources, the deal would be a roughly 50/50 split between cash and Microsoft stock, which means that absent of external funding, Microsoft would have to use up all its available cash to consummate this deal.

According to an article in the Seattle PI last year, Microsoft had as much as $64.4 billion in cash and equivalents in Q3 2004 (see image from Seattle PI below). In Q4 2004, the company paid out a one-time special dividend totalling about $32 billion, which reduced the stockpile to shy of $35 billion. The company also doubled the dividend to about $0.32 a share to further "share the wealth". In Q3 2005, the cash level grew back to about $40 billion, but the cash situation had been downhill since then. As seen from the chart below, by Q4 2006, the comapny`s cash reserves dropped below $30 billion, and in a scant year, it was down almost another $10 billion to $21.1 billion.

Microsoft Cash

So where did all the cash go?
